LINCOLN, NE - Development Council Executive Director Trevor Lee has been elected president of the Nebraska Economic Developers Association (NEDA) for the 2023-2024 year.
“The trust of my fellow board members and colleagues in the industry is humbling and rewarding,” Lee said. “As a state, we are facing multiple challenges relatively new to the profession. At a time with sub-2 % unemployment, days of chasing major employers as our primary focus are over. Business recruitment must be done with surgical precision. Shortages in housing, workforce, and the availability of quality childcare are top of mind, and it is prudent that we tackle these types of issues collectively and creatively at the local and state level while also taking care of our existing primary employers. NEDA is an organization of doers working in the trenches every day and serves as a strong advocate for the needs in our communities relative to development and growth, and I am proud to be part of it.”
Lee has been a member of NEDA since 2012, has served as a board member since 2016, and has held officer positions for the past several years. NEDA was formed in 1973 as the Nebraska Industrial Developers Association (NIDA). As the profession evolved in response to the work being done in Nebraska communities, so too has the association. Largely volunteer-driven, the organization has grown to the point of utilizing an association management firm as well as a Lincoln-based lobbying firm focusing on issues and legislation that most impact community development in Nebraska.
Lee joined the Development Council for Buffalo County in 2022 following executive roles in Ravenna, Ord, and Beatrice.
