As for the long-lost Chicago flight? We’re not quite ready to pass around the collection plate, but let’s just say the case is building. With numbers like these, the argument for expanded service is will be increasingly harder to ignore.

Retail sales in April topped $90 million, up 2.8% from last year — a solid showing. But the real headline? Vehicle sales, which roared ahead by 17%. That kind of leap suggests consumers aren’t just window shopping — they’re opening their wallets and betting on stability.

Seventeen building permits were issued in June — nearly double last year’s count for the month. Year-to-date totals are also climbing, with a healthy mix of residential and commercial projects. It’s a clear signal: investors and developers still believe in Buffalo County’s future, as they should.

Housing Market: Cooling, Not Crashing

June home sales edged up slightly, but the year-to-date total is down 19% from 2024. I don’t think that this is a market in retreat — it’s just one finding its footing. Most sales remain under $325,000, underscoring the importance of affordability. Inventory is tight, but demand hasn’t disappeared.

Tourism: Quietly Thriving

Lodging tax collections rose nearly 10% in May and are up 7.6% year-to-date. It’s a quiet boom — one that speaks to Kearney’s growing appeal as a destination. Visitors are coming, and they’re spending.
